Most devices feature two cameras, one on the face of the device often known as the front-facing camera and one on the back of the device known as the rear-facing camera. Many of Apple’s iPhones feature what is called an iSight camera.
In addition to the camera module itself, the camera mechanism typically consists of a sensor cable which connects the camera to the main board and also a lens which covers and protects the eye of the camera.
Common signs of a camera malfunction include…
- Hazy, blurry, or out of focus picture quality
- Camera app lags or freezes
- Back camera renders a black screen
- Camera app freezes after switching between front & back camera
- Missing features such as “Flash”, “Camera Roll”, and/or “HDR”
- The camera’s flash & shots are not in sync
Some of these issues are hardware related while others are software related, so determining the source of the problem is important.
First, be sure to clean the camera and flash lenses to remove any smudges and ensure optimum camera visibility. Also, reboot (or restore) the device, and check to ensure your settings are properly configured.
Also, remove any case that might cause obstruction or blockage of the camera. In some cases, a magnetic case can negatively affect the optical video stabilization function.
If none of those steps improve the issue, it is possibly a faulty camera or sensor cable, or debris or scratches inside the camera lens, and service might be required. Contact us today for a free repair quote!
